A cotton panel to make your own giant sweet/gift cone, 4 decorations for the tie string and 2 car plush toys.

A Schultüte is a lovely tradition in Germany, Austria and some other Western European countries when children set off for their first day of school upon entering first grade, their parents and/or grandparents present them with this large cone, attractively decorated and filled with toys, chocolate, candies/sweets, school supplies, and various other special treats. The cone is given to children to make this anxiously awaited first day of school a little sweeter.

We don't have this tradition in the UK, but these cones would make wonderful fun and unique gift bags (one cone would be a fab gift on its own!). Pretty easy to make with your sewing machine, the panels also come with patterns for plush toys and decorations (you'll need some stuffing and a pretty string, tape or lace and interfacing) . As you can see they are very big, the whole panel is 100x137 cm, a cone is nearly 1 meter tall.

SEWING INSTRUCTIONS

SUPPLIES:
- 1 DIY Panel
- Cotton or polyester filling
- Iron-on interfacing
- Sewing machine and thread for stitching
- Needle and thread
- Cord or ribbon

INSTRUCTIONS:
- First cut out all of the parts.

DECORATIONS:
- Align the fabric so that the correct sides are facing each
other, pin in place and stitch them together.
- Sew a ribbon on the top of the decorations so they can be
connected to the schultüte.
- Make sure to leave an opening for the cotton/polyester filling.
- Flip it over and stitch the opening shut after stuffing the
decorations with filling.
PLUSH TOYS:
- Align the fabric so that the correct sides are facing each
other, pin in place and sew them together.
- Make sure to leave an opening for the cotton filling.
- Flip it over and stitch the gap shut after stuffing the
decorations with cotton filling.

SCHULTÜTE:
- Trim the interfacing to fit the schultüte’s green part.
- Attach the interfacing to the fabric’s reverse side.
- Align the fabric and pin in place, now sew the long side
together.
- Leave the blue top unstitched and only fold and sew the
top edge together.
- Fill the schultüte and close it with the decorations and
ribbon.
